Wumera Nangamay: Muru Walan (Brisbane, 2026)
Artist statement:
I have long been drawn to the natural beauty of Kati Thanda.
The path of the rain that allows this mystical inland sea to come into being happens only once in a generation. With today’s increased climate emergency, the time between flooding has shortened and the biodiversity of the region is changing.
As a Gadigal woman, this Muru is one of our long-remembered songlines. One that connects my ancestors from the Sydney region to that of the Arabanoo people in the central desert.
Documenting its changes allows me to document both our deep connection through history and also the contemporary changes the landscape is facing today. Regardless of what you see in this paintings, they are magical. Joyful and spiritual laced imagery that connects us to deep time.
