Ken Done’s Aboriginal ...

This series of works is FUN! And are a total embellishment of my more serious contemporary Aboriginal arts practice. They are also a nod to the 80’s legend Ken Done, who I adore. His colour, and vast documentation of Sydney (my Country) are such a gift to anyone who calls this place home.

These works are colourful, playful and humorous.

Aboriginal Australia has a lot to offer, in fact we have more seasons!  Six in total, all with their own special markers, and not specifically tied to dates but tied to the behaviour of the land, animal - Country.  These 6 works depict our Six Eora (Sydney) coastal seasons.

The western notion of Christmas is a time-honoured oral & visual history ‘stolen’ and retooled from the Norwegian Indigenous tribes. The traditional red and pointed hat are based in Norway from their peoples folklore. In this painting I wanted to use the colours and geometry of the Australian outback in December to visually reclaim a truly Australian Christmas.  The colour palette directly hails from the McDonald Ranges near Alice Spring.

Buraga is a motion verb but In this painting I mean it metaphorically. It’s an acknowledgement of people, organisations being Buraga or stepping up to reconciliation.
